How To Propagate Desert Rose

Desert rose propagation is not as difficult as one might think. With a little patience and the right conditions, it is possible to grow new plants from cuttings taken from an existing desert rose.

Choose healthy, mature plants from which to take cuttings.

Ideally, the plant should be at least 2 years old. Cut off a stem that is 6-8 inches long and has several leaves.

Place the cutting in a pot filled with well-draining cactus mix or sand. Water lightly and place in a warm, sunny location out of direct sunlight.

Keep the soil moist but not soggy and wait for roots to form (this can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months). Once roots have formed, water less frequently and eventually transition to watering only when the soil is dry.

When the plant is large enough, transplant into a larger pot or into your garden!

If you’re looking to add a little bit of desert flair to your home, then propagating a desert rose (Adenium obesum) is a great way to do it.

These interesting plants are native to Africa and Arabia, and they can add a unique and exotic touch to any indoor or outdoor space. Plus, they’re relatively easy to propagate from cuttings, so you can create a whole new plant without too much effort.
